Our history

The history of Scotturb is mixed up with the history of public transportation in Portugal, since this company is the result of nationalising companies Cernache do Bom Jardim, Palhinhas, Sintra Atlantico, and Boa Viagem, which were integrated in Rodoviaria Nacional after the revolution that took place on April 25th, 1974.

In 1976 – when the government decided to nationalise 94 passenger road transportation companies under the same label –, they were organised into nine passenger operation centres based on the areas of operation, after which the entire region of Lisbon was united under the brand DGRL – Direçao Geral da Regiao de Lisboa, and later on turned into Rodoviaria de Lisboa.

With Rodoviaria de Lisboa being privatised in May 1995, the area of operation that comprised Cascais, Sintra, and Oeiras was purchased by British company, Stagecoach Holdings, and went on to operate in Portugal with the designation of Stagecoach Portugal.

In June 2001, the company was sold and became Scotturb, which marked the beginning of a new Era in the history of this company, but also in the history of public passenger transportation; in August 2004, it was entirely restructured, in terms of internal organisation as well as infrastructures and transportation network, as a result of its new management.

Scotturb invests on safety and comfort, and it counts on a team of 365 professionals who are daily committed to providing quality services to over 50 thousand passengers, who are transported every day by a modern fleet that comprises 130 vehicles that make 1900 daily circulations.

Mission to transport

Scotturb aims at providing adequate and efficient mobility, hence making customer satisfaction its principle by understanding their needs, gaining their trust with safe, comfortable, and quality public transportation.

Understanding customer needs, meeting their expectations adequately, and informing and answering their questions at all times so that the use of public transportation will be a simple and natural act are basic duties that Scotturb undertakes as being inherent to its daily operations.

And let us not forget their environmental intervention whose philosophy is the systematic renewal of their fleet by purchasing new vehicles with the latest technologies in terms of safety, comfort, access, and respect for the environment.

Sector framework

Together with the metropolitan authorities, city halls, local city centres, and companies in the districts where it operates, Scotturb is investing on the construction of an efficient transportation network, which meets the daily needs of its customers and partners.

All this is because it is investing on quality transportation promoting the use of public transportation rather than individual transportation, providing all citizens with sustainable mobility, and contributing towards the development of orderly, structured, and clean urban space.

In order to meet the growing demands of society, in urban centres as well as peripheral areas, it is imperative to combine the mobility policies integrating them with the different means of transportation that exist as to be able to ensure a sustained offer and quality public transportation services.

Organisation and management

In addition to administrative services and customer support office, the company’s headquarters also include maintenance services, particularly the garage, paint, washing, and fuel supply.

Its headquarters also include expedition services, which are responsible for controlling and monitoring all means – circulation and human – involved in the company's daily operations.

It is characterised as a modern and dynamic company, and its structure comprises a team of attentive and committed professionals who seek to develop a whole work around the quality of customer services.

Scotturb operates in three districts with high population density – Cascais, Sintra, and Oeiras, comprising a total area where approximately 755 thousand people reside whose population growth over the past decade is noteworthy.

All three districts count on the coverage of a structured transportation network with its first circulation taking place at 5.10 a.m. and the last one at 12.40 a.m., registering a time span of 19 hours and 30 minutes.

Scotturb’s transportation network provides the approximately 50 thousand passengers who daily benefit from the provided 133 thousand seats over two thousand stops, 19 terminals, and 26 information offices and points of sale.

This way, mobility is ensured to the entire population residing there, either through internal travelling or travelling between districts, either by visitors or those who travel daily for trading, professional, or leisure purposes.
